"Green energy" is the main selling point of the system, but it produces a great waste of resource. Because lighting system in street must work in rainy days, thus, the design of energy collection and storage must take the most undesirable weather conditions such as consecutive rainy days into consideration, which will lead to most devices are lying idle. This may need high cost and waste more energy.

In addition, a number of questions in practical applications also need to be resolved with a relatively high cost. Firstly, for management, it is difficult to realize centralized management and distance monitoring without electrical wiring, but if use another electrical wiring, it will increase the cost of products. Secondly, solar batteries’ life time and other electronic components are often less than that of LED, which brings some problems about how to ensure long life span of the whole system, it will have high maintenance costs as well.

Even though this technology is no longer hot, it still has some benefits. On the one hand, the solar LED lighting system is suitable for some certain situations (islands, remote area, etc.). On the other hand, in the landscape lighting such as courtyard, it still has development potential.
